Mama Taraba: APC reacts to Alhassan’s resignation, exit from party

The leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Taraba state has described the exit of former minister of Women Affairs, Senator Aisha Alhassan from the party as a welcome development.

The leader of the APC in the state, Senator Yusuf Abubakar said this while addressing journalists on Sunday ahead of the meeting of the APC aspirants with the gubernatorial primaries committee in Jalingo.

According to NAN, Yusuf said that her exit from the party would not have any negative impact on the party in the state.

He said that Alhassan’s exit has resolved the confusion her faction was trying to create in the party and has made way for the aspirants and party faithfuls to stay focused on the onerous task of taking over power in the state in 2019 and providing the dividends of democracy to the people.

The senator explained that the party has resolved to conduct direct primaries using open ballot system to elect the flag bearer of the party and has got the commitment of all the participants to abide by the result of the exercise which will hold on Monday.

“We have obtained the commitment  of all the aspirants that we would hold the direct primaries tomorrow, being Monday, through open balloting and that they would all abide by the result of the exercise.

“Let me also inform you that the exit of Alhassan from the party has no impact whatsoever.

“You cannot deny the fact that she left with some members but it is most insignificant number and caliber.

“All the members of the National Assembly are still with us and six out of the seven members of the state Assembly are with us,” Yusuf said.

Similarly, the state Chairman of the party, Mr Ibrahim El-Sudi said that Alhassan has only shown the people of the state that she only has her selfish interests at heart and not that of the people, and has consequently lost the support and sympathy of the people.
